We take responsibility

Policy for social responsibility
– accountability through partnerships

Original Coffee operates several coffee shops in Copenhagen. Our coffee bars are typically located in local environments in Copenhagen, and with each place we seek to welcome everyone in a distinctive local environment, which we ourselves like very much. In our coffee shops, we will protect the local environments, and we will run our coffee shops with respect for the society we are part of.

We are aware of our responsibility to protect human dignity, protect the environment and to generally conduct fair business, and therefore we engage in partnerships for responsibility. Through our commitment to REGA (the Restaurateurs' Guarantee Scheme), we have committed ourselves to working systematically to improve our work with social, environmental and financial sustainability. That journey began in the spring of 2018, and in the spring of 2020 we produced our first COP report (reporting from 2019), which we renew every year. You can read our reports via the link below.

We continue to work with our social responsibility, and we are excited about what the next step will be.

What we want

We will build our company on sustainable principles: Respect for human rights, for the environment and prevention of corruption. We have therefore committed ourselves to the UN's Global Compact's ten principles and the global minimum standard for social responsibility: the UN's Guidelines for Human Rights and Business and the OECD's Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. On the basis of these guidelines, we will continuously:

1. Identify potential negative impacts on human rights and the environment

2. Seek to prevent negative impacts from occurring, and

3. Mitigate our actual negative impacts, if we identify that we have any.

In the event of actual negative impacts on human rights, we will address these together with those who may be affected. We will measure our efforts to ensure respect for human rights and the environment, and we will communicate about our work. We will also identify and manage the risks we may have in relation to financial sustainability.

Our impact on the society we are part of

We offer our guests the opportunity to fully enjoy their right to rest and leisure, and we will continue to promote the best conditions for our guests. Before updating this policy, we will carry out an impact analysis of our company. In the meantime, we know that our industry faces a number of concrete risks of negative impacts on human rights, and here we will pay particular attention:

· We know that our employees form the basis for providing the best conditions for our guests, and we want to create the best conditions for our employees to feel comfortable in their jobs. We focus on the dignity and well-being of our employees, and therefore we encourage them to seek to prevent negative impacts in dialogue with the management. In order to create a good environment for our employees, we also offer our particularly committed employees industry-relevant training in management.

· We serve food in our coffee shops and our guests should never experience negative impacts on their right to health when served by us. That is why we take great care in the quality of the products we serve in our coffee bars.

· Different people have different preferences and we also want to ensure our guests' right to adequate nutrition. Therefore, we offer e.g. milk alternatives, and we can always inform you about all ingredients and allergens in our products.

· The local environments where our coffee shops are located have many things to offer, including a diverse population. We see that as a strength. We seek to promote safety in the local environments in which we are present, and therefore we encourage respect for everyone.

We also want to conduct business with respect for the environment, and therefore we continuously work to ensure that we make environmentally sound decisions in everything we do. We have e.g. the silver label in ecology corresponding to 60-80% organic, and we will work to become even better. We do not serve bottled water in our coffee bars, we have an efficient waste management system and we only use electricity from Danish wind turbines. We will continue our efforts towards creating coffee bars that are as sustainable as possible.

Accountability in partnerships

We expect our business relationships to also run a responsible business by complying with the principles and guidelines for social responsibility set out in this policy. If we become aware of unintended significant negative impacts in our business relationships or in our value chain, we will do what we can to get the company in question to deal with them.
