CSR

Our work with economic, social and environmental sustainability

We want to leave the world in the best possible state and therefore work strategically with the above three sustainability parameters. We have joined the world's largest CSR initiative, the UN's Global Compact, where we commit annually to document and report our work with social responsibility in a Communication on Progress report (CoP). The work with sustainability affects the choices we make and the goals we set for the future at Original Coffee. It is with us, in everything we do, whether you work as a barista in our coffee shops or in our administrative office.

Sustainability is part of our daily life in the coffee shops and is also very much part of our awareness in relation to the choice of business partners and partnerships. There is currently a huge development in the area, and we follow attentively and with interest new initiatives and the development of new, greener solutions. Original Coffee is not perfect, but we make an effort and work daily to become an even better version of ourselves. On this page you will find an overview of which sustainable choices and initiatives we have implemented and planned so far.

If you have any questions, you are always welcome to contact us at karen@originalcoffee.dk

2012

We are switching to 100% Danish wind energy

2016

All dairy products are organic and come from our close partner Naturmælk.

2017

We begin our collaboration with Gro Juice, which produces a range of tasty cold-pressed vegetable juices which, in addition to being organic, are also biodynamic.

We are awarded the Organic Bronze Label (30-60% of our range is organic).

All middle managers get the opportunity to take the academy course in Retail Leadership with a focus on the restaurant industry in collaboration with KEA Kompetence.

2018

We will become part of REGA , which is a community for restaurateurs who guarantee that they work systematically and purposefully to run responsible business with respect for human rights, the environment and anti-corruption.

We also join the world's largest CSR initiative, the UN's Global Compact .

We map our company in three different impact analyzes and also introduce both an internal and external whistleblower scheme .

2019

We receive butter and milk from the organic dairy Thise. Cleaning articles used in the coffee shops are Swan-labelled and our napkins and paper cake bags are FSC-certified.

We actively participate in the Global Compact's project "World Value in the Value Chain", which aims to find solutions to the Danish restaurant industry's biggest sustainability challenges.

We get the Organic Silver Label
(60-90% of our range is organic).

2019: Policy for social responsibility

We present our policy for social responsibility, in which we undertake to operate according to internationally agreed principles for social, environmental and economic sustainable development. Our aim is as far as possible to prevent and mitigate the negative impacts our business can have on various parameters of sustainability.

2020

We place further focus on local suppliers. New collaborations include with Christophe from La Fromageri, who delivers cheese, and with Anita and Jesper from Skelleris Gård, who build OC's own henhouse, from which we receive weekly fresh eggs in circular trays.

Copenhagen Climate Consulting calculates our total CO2 footprint and gives us concrete ideas and tools to reduce and minimize our emission of CO2 across all coffee shops in the future.

We replace e.g. our disposable cups and lids from conventional plastic to a biodegradable plastic, which means we reduce our emissions by 1.59 CO2 eq (t).

2021

We introduce our coffee capsules , which are made from residual products from sugar cane. The box is made from other residual products from agriculture and the writing is soy-based. We aim for the ultimate taste experience in the capsules and therefore contain the same coffee as we use in the bars.

As an alternative to the classic to-go cup, we offer our guests to serve their coffee in cups from New Loop , a new circular deposit system for take-away packaging. Already the second time coffee is served in the cup, the environmental impact is offset.

We participated in the podcast "Green ambitions" in collaboration with Erhvervshus Hovedstaden. Here we talked about how we as an SME work with sustainable change.

2021: COP Report

Through our membership of the Global Compact, we commit ourselves annually to documenting and reporting our work with social responsibility. This CoP report (Communication on Progress) describes how we implement the work with the UN Global Compact's ten principles in our strategy and actions. In the report, we document the progress we have made in the previous year as well as our goals for the work with social responsibility in the coming year.

2022

In February, we are the first REGA company to pass our audit, where an external company has gone through our services, working methods, etc. to see if we meet a number of more precisely specified quality requirements.

During March, we implement 5 kg. circular coffee barrels, which will replace some of the disposable bags that our traditional espresso is delivered in. When the cafes have emptied the containers, the containers are sent back to Kontra Coffee, which washes the containers, refills them and sends them back to the coffee shops.
